SERVICE STATEMENT

NWRSS provides support to people who, for reasons of disability, require assistance to:

  • Find a home of their choice.

  • Learn and maintain the skills needed to live in the home of their choice.

  • Ensure attention to any support, personal development and life enrichment needs.

  • Ensure advocacy in any life areas where representation and protection might be required.

The structure of the organisation, the geographical area it covers and contact details can be found in our Organisational Chart.

The organisation, as part of its funding agreement with the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services, agrees to meet the standards listed in Legislated Service Standards.

NWRSS views legislated standards as minimal standards only. This raises the need to identify and reach optimal and exceptional standards. It is in this quest that a well developed philosophical base from which to measure decisions becomes important.

A philosophical base to a human support service is a set of beliefs that the service decides to hold as the main influence on service delivery. In particular, how a service views and thinks about the people it serves will heavily influence the type and nature of the support they finally receive.

NWRSS believes that the people it serves are at great risk of being seen as less valuable than others and subsequently treated in ways that reduce their dignity, development, competence, health, wealth and even the lengths of their lives. They are more likely to be rejected by others and even persecuted. In view of this process, NWRSS believes that its quest for optimal service quality should take into account and attend to the challenges outlined in 30 Elements of Service Quality and The Choice Between a ‘Real Home’ and a Program, by Michael Kendrick. Changing Lives, Changing Communities by Harriet Ziegler is given to all staff as a reference in the quest for optimal quality in service provision. Copies of this publication are available for a small charge by contacting

NWRSS believes that each person is a developing individual and given opportunities, will develop at all stages of their life. This approach applies to the people being served and staff alike.

The maintenance of quality is a daily struggle against differing and changing beliefs, values and attitudes. NWRSS works towards a protective and developmental culture by consciously refining and nurturing its philosophical base.
